Six Month Braces - Dan

Dan had a couple of issues with his teeth. He didn't like that when he smiled one of his front teeth looked like it was missing. He also was very aware of his "fangs".

Dan wore clear cosmetic braces for 8 months to achieve this result.

This is a case of "crowding" - this means that there isn't enough room for all the teeth to stand side by side so a tooth or teeth get crowded out of the arch. To alleviate crowding we need to make space. We do this by expanding the arch as much as possible and by making small spaces in between all of the teeth. We rarely extract teeth.

Look carefully to see that the teeth don't look "skinny" or odd after the space has been made. A lot of time and care is taken to slenderize the teeth.

The spaces are very small - imagine flossing between two tight teeth,  then we polish between the teeth with a diamond disc and then the floss would pass easily between the teeth. We then use small elastics to close the spaces, gradually allowing room for the crowded tooth to come into place.

Dan was delighted with the result not only was his hidden tooth brought into his smile but it was a beauty! Look at how the "fangs" have melted into the rest of the smile and are no longer as prominent.
