Veneers are thin porcelain fronts used to enhance the appearance and function of a tooth. There should a be minimal amount of the patients original tooth removed in preparation for the veneer. I have seen some TV programmes e.g. The Swan, 10 Years Younger where the teeth are dramatically reduced to "stumps". This is gross over preparation and in the long term may "kill" the nerve in the tooth leading to root treatments.

Pictures 2,3&4 show a case where a patient didn't like the shape of a lateral incisor. It shows how little teeth should be prepared and the kind of result which is possible.

Picture 2 shows the shape of the tooth the patient didn't like.

Picture 3 shows the tooth after a minimal preparation of the front surface of the tooth - mostly towards the gum margin as it is important that the gum remains pink and healthy after the veneer is cemented.

Picture 4 shows the porcelain veneer fitted and finished.
